If you do buy quartzite or buy granite that stains or forms scratches then it s probably not quartzite or granite. Basically quartzite comes about when quartz rich sandstone is altered by the heat pressure and chemical activity of metamorphism. Granite is an igneous rock known for being very hard. Quartzite is harder than granite so it is quite durable.

The natural stone is one of the densest materials you will be able to find. Quartz is hard too but not quite as hard as quartzite. But there s an up and coming stone available called quartzite and its benefits are pretty amazing. You may have also heard reports about quartz counters quartzite and quartz are often confused and how well they compare to granite countertops.

It s formed from cooled magma and is partly composed of quartz. From these slabs granite countertops are cut and polished for installation. Granite is a pure natural stone mined from quarries in whole slabs or tiles. The resin used in manufacturing quartz countertops is a plastic so it is prone to melting in heat above 300 degrees fahrenheit.

It too is resistant to heat scratching and chemical reactions. Quartzite forms as a result of sandstone that has high quartz content being exposed to high amounts of heat and pressure. Unlike quartz countertops the natural integrity of the stone remains untouched. Keep in mind that quartzite is a natural stone while the similarly named quartz is engineered stone.
