An irish george iii white marble and scaliola chimneypiece attributed to pietro bossi circa 1780 the molded breakfronted rest above a freize inlaid with classical portrait medallions joined by husk draped swags the jambs headed by crossed berried branches over paneled foliate and crossed arrow pendants. This technique has been replicated by ryan smith to produce this uniquely irish fireplace. The pure white italian statuary carrara marble body beautifully inlaid with multicoloured scagliola to form exquisite neo classical ornament. An italian craftsman bossi worked in dublin from 1785 to 1798 and used coloured marble inlay and also a coloured paste inlay known as scagliola on a white marble ground. Opening width 851 mm 33 in. The central plaque depicts two carved seated winged griffons either side of a flaming urn two inlaid green marble panels either side.
